“Vegans live longer”
As commonly believed by veggies, vegans live longer then non-vegans, up to twenty years are possible, they claim. Sometimes they also claim that this is shown by a vast number of (unbiased) scientific studies.
Unfortunately, I could not find them, but what I found was this:
A 1999 metastudy[10] compared six major studies from western countries. The study found that the mortality ratio was the lowest in fish eaters (0.82) followed by vegetarians (0.84) and occasional meat eaters (0.84), and was then followed by regular meat eaters (1.0) and vegan (1.0).1
Also, I find it quite puzzling that in India, a country that is said to have an extraordinarily high number of vegetarians, has no higher average life expectancy than other countries, on the contrary,2 so matters of life expectancy may have to do with health care and wealth in general rather then with the eating
next: “But we don′t need meat!”
previous: “Meat makes impotent!”
