“Meat is destroying the environment!”
Meat, the veggies say, destroys our environment. Of course they do not mean humps of meat running around and wrecking trees,1 they claim that the meat industry does a big deal of producing greenhouse gasses et cetera, often presenting figures and statistics,2 showing how “evil” the meat industry is. And yes, the meat industry does do damage to our environment, the reason not being the word “meat” in “meat industry”, but the word “industry”. Industry as a whole, our Western way of life in general does this kind of damage to the environment,3 and no, agriculture does not do less damage then stock farming. One of the biggest producers of methane for instance are rice fields,4 so what will shall we do now?
Demanding giving up meat of us “because of environmental reasons” and not doing that in the same way to petrol and its products (like literally all the materials artificial leather and other products veggies like to use) is hypocrite. It is the way global economy works that is a threat to our planet, not meat. Or why else does humankind have consumed meat for, well, about two million years without any serious trouble?

Footnotes:
1: Sorry, but I just could not resist that one; I once read that “meat destroys the environment” on a veggie website. Needless to say, I kept laughing the whole day, imagining humps of meat hopping around wrecking forests.
2: Careful! Sometimes those figures do not come from reliable sources! Sometimes they are not correct, especially when they show how much water is needed to produce meat. Those figures are nearly always wrong, relying on individual opinions of single scientists and are in no way commonly accepted.
3: Compare the output of greenhouse gasses of any industrial country to any development country for that purpose.
