2011-07-02, the UN recommends veganism?
Reading comments of my
antivegan videos is usually a pain. Too many people with too much time and too little knowledge roaming free in a world of polemics and insults, just because they can′t deal with the fact that people actually dare to question their sacred believes.
One of those guys recently came up with the claim that “the UN recommends a vegan lifestyle”, referring to a UN-report from 2006, where production of animal products is claimed to cause more environmental damage than transportation (see for instance a report on
theguardian.co.uk). So far, so good, but there is a catch to it: The report is flawed.
“UN admits flaw in report on meat and climate change”, says
telegraph.co.uk, for appearantly the people who created that report1, well, let′s just quote the Telegraph:
The meat figure had been reached by adding all greenhouse-gas emissions associated with meat production, including fertiliser production, land clearance, methane emissions and vehicle use on farms, whereas the transport figure had only included the burning of fossil fuels.
So, if anyone should ever pester you again with that “the UN recommends veganism“ or something, well, aside that this is not the case even in the original report, the report this claim is based on has turned out to be flawed, and you can trustfully dismiss it as yet another myth debunked.

Footnotes:
1: Mind that “the UN” does not write reports, people of or associated with the UN do.
